Week 5 Part B: Learning about FaceBook Data Collecting
Data analytics is an important part of Social Media Marketing. Facebook tracks these two metrics:
- Post reach: Where what you post reaches out to an audience as a post in the feed.
- Post engagement: Where the viewer actually connects with the post, either by liking, sharing or commenting on it.
Post reach is important because it measures how many people you are actually reaching. Depending on the hashtags you use, you can expand your reach to different communities than what your niche falls in. Post engagement is important because it measures true fans. Those people that are really interested in learning more about your brand.
Post reach allows you to learn who sees your content. By gaining more insight into who sees your content, you are able to tailor your posts to the communities that see your content most. Post engagement teaches you about what your fans actually like from your content. That information is valuable because you can produce more content that will actually get seen and engaged with.
Not to belabor the point, but Facebook insights allows you to better understand your audience and therefore create content more relevant to their needs. Without that knowledge, you’d be shooing in the dark and hoping your content resonates. In addition to more relevant content, you are able to build your community of true followers. This is paramount to building a lasting brand.
Personal data collection can be a scary idea. Who is seeing this information? Where is it being stored? How secure is the location the data is stored? These are all questions you think about when you hear that your data is being collected. It feels like a violation. People have been caught in data breaches and have had their identities stolen. So these are some negative points about data collection. On the flip side, seeing ads or accounts that resonate with your values is important. Businesses being able to target specific clients for their business is also important. These are the positive points of data collection
