Week 3 Part B: Developing a Brand

My business name is based on the phoenix, a mythical bird, that is said to have lived thousands of years ago. The gist of the phoenix’s story is that they lived for about 500 years and then built their own pyre and burned themselves to death, and from those ashes a new bird was born with the wisdom of all the phoenixes before it. The story is one of renewal, rebirth, and resurrection. As a holistic health practitioner, I believe in the power of renewal. Not to mention I am an astrology enthusiast, and the phoenix is one of my symbols as a Scorpio, which is also about life, death, and rebirth. So, there is personal meaning to me.

My sister is a graphic designer and created my logo. There is a picture of a phoenix and my business name, Phoenix Rising Holistic Therapies. The colors in the logo are red, pink, orange, gold, black, and white. I’ve tried to stick to the colors she used in the logo for any other media output. I always add the logo to videos and images.

One area I have been struggling with is how to define what I do to others, and I think a tagline would be helpful in that area. When I first started, I was using the quote “Touch the body. Heal the mind. Calm the spirit.” While this kind of gives a glimpse of what I want to do, I think the tagline “A massage studio, dedicated to your wellness,” might ring a bit truer.

I have noticed when I post to social media with images or videos that show my face and/or I am talking, those tend to do better. So, while I have a logo, color scheme, and I am working on the tagline, ultimately, I will be the face of my company. Which means I must get comfortable speaking about it, promoting it and sharing tidbits about my life to an extent.

The final version of my business is a wellness studio that focuses on the six dimensions of wellness and incorporates massage. What I've realized after going through this chapter is that what has been created is not really a brand. There are some components, but no research, data analysis, brand kit development or marketing have been applied properly. With the vision of the version of my business in its entirety, I am now tasked with rebranding using the tools I have just gained. I will begin researching and gathering data now and plan for a relaunch during the summer.
